Man Camp

I think a camp out once in a while is a great idea. Time out with the guys, in nature, away from all of the hustle and bustle... we could finally pull off a real Starcraft party without interruption.

Just kidding...

I have fond memories of when James and I hiked Pine Valley, spending the night off the side of the trail in some random place, just because. Or rather, a fond memory, because we only did it once, but it was fun.

We wouldn't necessarily have to backpack, but I know there are a few hundred awesome places around here that I've not experienced, places like Kanara creek falls, or even places somewhere between So. Utah and our No. Utah counterpart.

I second the motion, and propose we get something on the calendar. Just stick it on there. It may be unlikely to get all of us at the same time, but let's plan something anyway. 2nd or 3rd weekends in June, or sometime in July is my pitch.

  3. Well, I had a great comment typed up, but after getting it got lost I find myself with less enthusiasm for repeating it. So here goes:

I second the man camp idea, and I second the grapefruit cobbler.

I motion for the 3rd weekend in June, but I can do about any weekend with some advance notice.

We could consider going to Tuweap for our campsite - it's a little remote and requires 3 hours of (well-maintained) dirt road driving to get there, but worth it if you have the time.

If that doesn't work there are plenty of other spots we could go of course. We could maybe even an attempt to have an uneventful Red Cliffs campout, but I am not sure I want to risk my vehicle this time around.

Pine Valley is also pretty fantastic this time of year... http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=pine+valley+mountain+backpacking&m=text

  4. My mom said the drive to Tuweap was a bit rough for them when they went out a month or two ago, but they said it was pretty. I could do the 3rd weekend in June and it is seeming that may be the time to go.
