I have been thinking today how nice it would be to have an impartial and consistent feedback loop. A way that as soon as you had an idea you could bounce it off someone and have instant impartial feedback. I experience that type of feeling occasionally with Bach when I can catch him, but then we have to go our seperate ways and do other things, that is why it would be nice to have a constant link. Some might point to prayer and revelation, and that is true and wonderful, but I don't forsee in the near future the ability to have a constant stream of that feedback, and sometimes "noise" has a great tendency to drown that out easier. There is also something to be said for the "down to earth" feedback you can get from peers.
Just some thoughts I had when coming up with some ideas for the first edition of what will become a Herd anthology.

That's an interesting idea. I can see how this could be useful. I think we could come up with a way to get relatively impartial feedback, if not instant. We could, for example, create an "anonymous" blog user which we all have access to with which any of us could use to post ideas before the group for review. I think anonymity would help with impartiality, since the thing up for consideration is the idea, not the person.
ReplyDeleteActually, this reminds me of something (speaking of Nerd history). Remember Aaron, I believe from NerdWire, who was unceremoniously un-invited after only a few days of NerdWire membership?
I don't know that I remember Aaron, but I remember some other "annoynmous" contributors to the yahoo group. That was interesting, but maybe with a few more years maturity we could avoid some of that.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea too. An-on-ym-ity (got it?) sounds like a safe way out. It can be hard sometimes to see something you are excited about and really think will take flight get shot down with teasing negativity or sarcastic critisism. After three years (and still going) of sales and building a network marketing business, I've faced my fair share of rejection. But It's helped me learn a lot about other people's opinions. I heard a great quote a few days ago: "I don't care what you think, I know the truth." Do and say what you feel is right in your heart, and press forward with boldness. There's no shame in that. (as long as it is legal, moral and ethical.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, to cut it short, I think it is a great option. Maybe this was the idea all along, but I think it will be most effective as a reply identity instead of a way to present ideas anonomously. (And if everyone used it of course)
