Politics Kill Me

My sister-in-law put this link up on here blog I thought it was an interesting editorial piece by Orson Scott Card.

I don't know what to think about politics this year, but there is a big mess right now that is without a doubt.

  1. Politics is a sticky battlefield. I don't keep up with it because most of the campaigning is centered around digging up skeletons and trying to win elections by destroying their rivals. Orson is right. The democrats are centered around what Steven Covey refers to as a "quick-fix" mentality: Do whatever is necessary to escape your current problems regardless of what impact it may have on the future. Hey, that might be a good slogan: "Push-it-forward".

No soap box friends, I just feel that our dissapointments are mutual.

  2. My dad sent me this same article, I guess it's going around.

I think that more concerning than Card's accusations against the Democrats is his position that Journalists are not telling us the whole story. We are all aware of the importance of journalism in politics, so what if he is right?

Journalists pride themselves on their role as the power equalizers in the world, taking the information monopoly away from the few and distributing it to the many so that they are able to maken informed decisions about who their leaders are. If they are not doing their jobs objectively it will be impossible for people who have not known both John McCain and Barack Obama Personally for many years to make an informed decision. Do any of you have that privelege?

If the only available sources of information are slanted, what are we to do?

  3. You know, I often wonder if people are going to be held accountable for these kinds of actions someday. Lying, not being honest with your fellow men, how could you not be?
